OBITUARIES

Joel N. Young

Joel N. Young, 65, of Fletcher, died Monday (Oct. 21, 2002) in St. Louis.

Mr. Young was employed as a welder with Chrysler Corp. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and a veteran of the Air Force.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Westbrook Funeral Home in Hazen, Ark. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Center Point Baptist Church in Hazen, with burial at the church cemetery.

Among survivors are his wife, Patsy Young of Fletcher; two sons, Charles Young of Gentry Ark., and Keith Young of Steelville, Mo.; a sister, Martha Collier of House Springs; and one grandchild.



Otto P. Schulz



Otto P. Schulz, 96, of Pevely, died Monday (Oct. 21, 2002) at Festus Nursing Center in Festus.

Mr. Schulz was a dairy farmer and a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Pevely.

The funeral was Wednesday in Zion Lutheran Church in Pevely.

The burial was in Shepherd Hills Cemetery in Barnhart.

Among survivors are three daughters, Viola Marie Meyer of Tacoma, Wash., Anna Burnell Maher of Pevely and Joyce La- Verne Cage of Altamont, Ill.; two brothers, Anton Schulz and Walter Schulz, both of St. Louis; three sisters, Anna Saeger of Crystal City, Lora Hesse of St. Louis and Ruth Lindhorst of Festus; 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.



Lilburn H. Guenther



Lilburn H. Guenther, 81, of De Soto, died Saturday (Oct. 19, 2002) at home.

Mr. Guenther was a station engineer at Granite City Steel Co. He was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Richwoods. He served in the Army and was a member of VFW Post 1831 of De Soto.

The funeral was Tuesday at St. Stephen in Richwoods. The burial was in the parish cemetery.

Among survivors are his wife, Lucille Merseal Guenther; two stepsons, Kenneth Merseal of De Soto and Benny Merseal of Old Mines, Mo.; two sisters, Thelma Lucash and Helen Wigger, both of Granite City; a brother, Ronald Guenther of Granite City; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were by Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 North Main Street, De Soto, Mo. 63020.



Matthew Steven Baisch



Matthew Steven Baisch, 19, of De Soto, died Oct. 17, 2002, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident on Highway 21 north of Hillsboro.

Mr. Baisch was a student at Jefferson College and a 2002 graduate of De Soto High School. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church in De Soto.

The funeral was Monday at St. Rose of Lima Church in De Soto.

The burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery in De Soto.

Among survivors are his parents, Mark and Joan Baisch of De Soto; a brother, Kevin Baisch of De Soto; and grandparent, Alberta Baisch of De Soto.



Rosalee M. Carrow



Rosalee M. Carrow, 72, of Festus, died Saturday (Oct. 19, 2002) at home.

Mrs. Carrow worked as a clerk for Walgreens in Crystal City and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Crystal City.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Church, 555 Bailey Road, Crystal City. The burial will be in the church cemetery.

Among survivors are five daughters, Mary Lovelace of Fort Collins, Colo., Anne O'Neal of De Soto, Patricia Olive of Creve Coeur, Theresa Carrow of Dallas and Samantha Noce of Mount Zion, Ill.; a son, Ron Carrow of McKinney, Texas; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

William B. "Ben" Drury



William B. "Ben" Drury, 87, of Festus, died Monday (Oct. 21, 2002) at Riverview Manor Nursing Center in Ste. Genevieve, Mo.

Mr. Drury was a farmer and also worked as a glassworker with PPG Industries. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Festus-Crystal City and a veteran of the Army in World War II.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 West Main Street, Festus-Crystal City, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Festus-Crystal City, 107 Truman Boulevard and Bailey Road. The funeral will follow at 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Danby Cemetery, Danby Road, Festus.

Among survivors are his wife, Isabell Mary Drury of Festus; two daughters, Mary Lou Pribble of Midlothian, Texas, and Judith Ann Smith of Toronto, Ontario; four sons, William J. Drury and Paul R. Drury and Charles R. Drury, all of Festus, and James R. Drury of Bloomsdale, Mo.; a sister, Angeline L. Marbain of Festus; 18 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy A. Maloney



Dorothy A. Maloney, 93, of Festus, died Monday (Oct. 21, 2002) at Crystal Oaks Skilled Nursing Center in Crystal City.

Mrs. Maloney was an elementary-school teacher in the Festus district. She was the first kindergarten teacher in the district and taught for 41 years. She retired 1974. In 1999 she was the third person to be inducted into the Festus School Hall of Fame. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Festus and a 56-year member and past president of PEO Chapter EH; past officer and Woman of the Year of the Twin City Business and Professional Women; life member of Jefferson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary; charter member of the Alpha Iota Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma; and the Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association.

The funeral was Wednesday at Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.

The burial was in Fairview Presbyterian Cemetery in Festus.

There are no immediate survivors.



Betty L. Stewart



Betty L. Stewart, 73, of De Soto, died Oct. 16, 2002, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Crystal City.

She was a homemaker.

The graveside service was Saturday at Woodlawn Mausoleum in De Soto.

Among survivors are her husband, Jack L. Stewart of De Soto; two daughters, Janet Page and Penny Akers, both of De Soto; a son, John Stewart of Lee's Summit, Mo.; two brothers, Linn Graham of De Soto and Grady Graham of McAllen, Texas; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.



Calvin Jack Solomon



Calvin Jack Solomon, 74, of House Springs, died Monday (Oct. 21, 2002) at home.

Mr. Solomon was a sales representative for General Cigar and was a veteran of the Marine Corps. He was a past commandant of the Collinsville Marine Corps League and the 5th State District Marine Corps League.

The funeral was Wednesday at Chapel Hill Mortuary in Cedar Hill. Burial was in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Among survivors are two daughters, Linda Barajas of House Springs and Pamela Perry of Kansas City; a brother, Edward Lang of Owensville, Mo.; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.



Marie Baur Marler



Marie Baur Marler, 92, of Crystal City, died Saturday (Oct. 19, 2002) at Baisch Nursing Center in De Soto.

Mrs. Marler was a filing clerk for Liguori Publications and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Crystal City. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary.

The funeral Mass was Tuesday at Sacred Heart Church. Burial was in the church cemetery in Crystal City.

Among survivors are a daughter, Mary C. Bruns of Blooms- dale, Mo.; two stepsons, Richard Marler of Kansas, and Don Marler of Indiana; a sister, Reba Hubbard of De Soto; seven grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.



Melva J. Truka



Melva J. Truka, 83, of Imperial, died Friday (Oct. 18, 2002) at home.

Mrs. Truka was a homemaker.

The funeral was Monday at Vinyard's Hillcrest Funeral Home in Pevely. Burial was in Shepherd Hills Cemetery in Barnhart.

Among survivors are a daughter, Patricia Sanders of Lenzburg, Ill.; a son, Marvin M. "Skip" Truka Jr. of Imperial; one grandchild; and three great-grandchildren.



Jay W. Stewart



Jay W. Stewart, 40, of Dittmer, died Friday (Oct. 18, 2002) in Dittmer.

Mr. Stewart worked in maintenance for Carafiol Properties for several years. He enjoyed camping and was a member of the Jefferson County Horseshoe League.

The funeral was Monday at Chapel Hill Mortuary in Cedar Hill.

Among survivors are his parents, Robert M. and Alice R. Stewart of Dittmer; two daughters, Ashley Stewart and Amber Stewart, both of Robertsville; and a sister, Kim Geger of Cedar Hill.



Philip Lee Winters



Philip Lee Winters, 55, of Arnold, died Oct. 17, 2002, in Chesterfield.

Mr. Winters was a laborer with an automotive manufacturing company.

The funeral and burial were Tuesday at Jefferson Barracks, National Cemetery in south St. Louis County.

Among survivors are his daughter, Sherry Winters of High Ridge; his mother, Clara Roberta Winters; and two brothers, Stephen Winters of High Ridge and Richard Winters of Bonne Terre.



Gail H Sartori



Gail H Sartori, 60, of Crystal City, died Sunday (Oct. 20, 2002) at home.

Ms. Sartori was a homemaker.

A memorial gathering and service hosted by her family was held Wednesday at her home.

Among survivors are a sister, Ozella "Fern" Porter of Crystal City, and a brother, Ronald Edward Sartori of Tampa, Fla.
