Pat,
The Civil War regiments normally had approximately 800 to 1000 men at full
strength, depending on the number of companies which could vary. There was
considerable turnover of personnel because of illness and battle casualties and
almost continual recruitment of replacements. Therefore, it was not uncommon
for 1500 or more men to serve in a given regiment during the war except for
those regiments mustered late in the war.
