Anita,

In case you are interested and haven't gone to Mount Vernon yet, Lawrence Co., Mo., Tombstone Inscriptions, Vol. 3, Red Oak, Greene, and Lincoln Townships, which has the transcriptions of the tombstones for Stahl (Creek) Cemetery, also has a plat map of the lot numbers and the tombstone inscriptions are listed by lot number. You could either check this volume at the McCanse Library in Mount Vernon. It is on the south side of Water Street, a couple of blocks off the Square toward Highway 39. Or send me the names and I'll check the lot numbers and plat map for you.

The Mount Vernon City Cemetery transcriptions do not include a plat map. However, there may be one available at the Library. Lawrence County Historical Society members have done a lot of work there in recent years which I believe included a plat map. You might want to contact Fred Mieswinkel, Gary Daughtrey or Hal Richardson, who I believe are very familiar with it and have done a lot of work cleaning, resetting stones, etc., in recent years. Fred does not have email and I don't know about Gary and Hal. Others worked on this, too, but I won't try to list everybody's name.

Ross,
Thank you so much for the directions! You've helped me in the past with my
Stroud line from that area so I can't wait to get down there and see the
area.

Anita

Vernon City Cemetery. From Business Loop I-44, turn north on McCanse Street
(a right turn if you are going west; a left turn if you are going east) and
go several blocks (there are more streets going west than east from McCanse)
until you get to Center Street. Keep going straight on McCanse, and as you
get to Oak Lane Drive on your right, the City Cemetery is on the left.
Incidentally if you look left on Center Street as you cross it, you should
see the Courthouse about two blocks away.

and turn right onto Center. You'll reach the Courthouse Square (Hickory
Street on this side). Turn right onto the square, then go left on the
square and you'll be on Water Street. Follow Water Street off the Square to
Highway 39. Turn right (north) on Highway 39 and go about 4 1/2 miles to
Farm Road 2070 and turn left (If you were to keeping going another mile on
39, you'd be to Highway 96, the old "Route 66"). Go one mile and about 1/8
mile after you cross Farm Road 1110, Stahl (Creek) Cemetery is on your right
from Farm Road 2070.

trying to find the exact locations of 2 cemeteries....Stahl and Mt. Vernon
City Cemetery. Does anyone have any information on where these are located
and/or who the caretakers of the cemeteries are?
