Dear Gary,
Hello, Thank you for your response to my post. I have been googling and
also checking the yellow pages and haven't found anything. That is why I
posted.
I have received an email from Doris Schaefer who did tell me that the church
does still exist today and is on Lincoln Street? Still haven't found any
listing on the net. She also suggested that I also contact City Hall, which
I will do.
I will go ahead and explain my research in the Marionville area to this
list, maybe something else will come to light:
As I understand it, the Ladd family was a very well known family in
Marionville. I am not researching the family as a whole, just one person in
that family. John Talbert Renow "J.T.R." Ladd was born April 16, 1858 in
Monroe County, Kentucky the son of Gibson Taylor Ladd and Abigail Welch.
John first marries Rosetta Jane Stacy on January 19, 1881 in Purdy, Barry
County, Missouri. They had two daughters Ina and Vera Ladd, they never
marry. John is listed in the 1870, 1880, 1900 and 1910 Lawrence County
Census records.
Rosetta Jane (Stacy) Ladd was born September 22, 1853 near Polk Springs,
Lawrence County, Missouri the daughter of John Stacy and Francis "Fannie"
Hightower. Rosetta died March 20, 1912 in Marionville and her death notice
states she was a member of the Christian Church in Marionville and had been
baptized there. Incidentally, Rose's sister Susan Stacy was the second wife
to Gibson Taylor Ladd, the father of John Talbert Renow "J.T.R." Ladd.
Interesting.
This is where my connection comes in, soon after Rosetta's death, John moves
to Salpulpa, Creek County, Oklahoma. There he meets and marries Ida Isabell
(Boughner) Debolt on May 1, 1915. Ida is my great-great-grandmother on my
father's side. Ida was first married to John T. Debolt of Wetzel County,
West Virginia, my great-great-grandfather. John T. Debolt died in 1907.
Ida's sister invites her to Oklahoma.
John and Ida Ladd have a very rocky life together. They divorce in 1920 and
then remarry in 1921 and then divorce again before 1930, all these events
taking place in Salpulpa, Creek County, Oklahoma. John dies January 3, 1950
in Oklahoma and his remains are brought back to Marionville for burial.
John and Rosetta Ladd are both buried in the Marionville I.O.O.F. Cemetery
John's life and connection to my great-great-grandmother is such a mystery
and interesting, that is why I am researching his life.
Thanks for letting me share.
In Christ,
Melissa Barker
