Go there for some Adams County tombstone photos and such. I've been putting
this online now for almost a year. not all of them are online but you might
find someone if you don't already have them. YOu have to go the Il County
page and then to Adams county, IL. for the tombstone photos.
here is my 2nd great grandmother's obituary I finally found in a Galesburg
Paper.
Mrs. Harry Terpening died at her home in Missouri April 08, 1886 of
consumption nee's Armstrong, Lyna, as her friends called her. United with
the M. E. Church at Tylerville when quite young. She leaves 8 children. Her
death had been expected for some time. Utah, April 24, 1886. Galesburg
Republican-Register.
At the time of her death she was living on a farm near Ewing, MO. The whole
family was. They buried her there. it wasn't until later My 2nd
great-grandfather Harrison Peck Terpening came back to Utah, Ill, which was
never classified as a town or anything but she was buried down there. My
great-grandfather John Thomas Terpening has on his death certificate he was
born in another county in MO and Harrison's mother Mindwell Smith Terpening
had brothers who went to MO. so that could be true but I've never found
Martha Nicolina' burial place. I just happened to stumble onto the obituary
in a book at the library here in IL in Galesburg, IL.
Actually I've never posted to this before either. I've always received
things and had been waiting and I check it periodically the Lewis Co, MO web
site to see if there is any info and I can never find anything on my family
that went MO. and when I saw the post of the new web site being updated I
thought maybe just maybe I might get a glimmer.
Those Terpening's you mention below are out of my family.
Is there a cemetery near this Ewing, MO? Is Canton, MO, near Ewing, MO. I
have no idea where either place is? I live in IL and have been through MO
going to see my brother in KS but never stopped guess next time I'm going to
have to take a different route.
The only Terpening listed in the cemetery book by the LCHS in Canton are
Elasie M (Bonddurant) 1877 1954---Earl's wife
Earl S. ss 1875 1952------is the son of John Wesley Terpening brother to my
Harrison Peck Terpening.
John W. 05-09-1903 10-28-1970 son of Earl & Elasie Terpening. Isn't his wife
Ruth Ball and then his second wife Pauline buried here? She died a couple of
years ago. I got a letter from a friend of hers that was in a nursing home
down there? I never did know where these guys were buried either. Now I do.
Thanks so much....

My Smith's are Mindwell Smith Terpening's brothers and those I would have
to look up and see but think they went to Petis County, MO.
another of John Peck Terpening's brother's ended up in MO. His name was
Samuel and he was in Petis Co., I think not sure but think he was both of
his daughters from his second marriage married some
Twigg guy. Have some information on them.
Thanks for the address and I think I just might right to them and see if
they can help. I'm trying to do some of my own family information for a
change.

As for Smith they are listed in 29 different cemeteris without first names
listed in the index. I will be glad to help but would need more inforamtion
on who you need. And by the way Foxie Lady you have helped me in the past.
Armstrong are indexed in seven cemeteries.
Perhaps you should wrte the Historical Society for your missing ancestors.
They were very helpful for me when I visited them for two days. And now I
need more! Maybe soon!

I am researching Jones, Drescher< Minnerly, Glisan and others from Lewis
County Missouri.
Jones Simms, Underwood and others in in Sagamon Co. Il.
Earel and Jones in Adam and Knoz Co. Il.
Sammons in Adams County Il, Hamilton County Ohio and Indiana, Kentucky.
Hetzler Lewis County Mo. and Adams Co Il.
Many of the Adams County Il. names are also in Lewis County Mo. They seemed
to cross the river often.
