Hello Everyone,
I have a little information in answer to the message about Scott and Dora Jane
Spencer Brown,
as Dora Jane was a daughter of Willard H. and Margaret Jane Cotter Spencer of
Linn County.
According to the information I have, five Cotter brothers migrated to Linn
County, MO from Greene County, Tennessee in the 1840's. (From memory, maybe
1844.) I show the five brothers as William, David, Jeremiah, Stephen and John
Cotter, sons of William Cotter.
I think I read somewhere that some of the Cotters may have gone elsewhere in
Missouri, but at least one stayed for at least awhile, as several of my Bennett
line married Cotters. This is a guess, but I think it was Stephen who was the
ancestor of at least some of the Linn County Cotters.

I show Margaret Jane as a daughter of Stephen and Elizabeth Fair? Cotter.
Stephen born 1814.
I also show Caleb Cotter, born 1840, as son of Stephen. (Note the question
mark after Stephen's wife's name.)

One of my Bennett cousins married Stephen W. Cotter, whom I assume may have
descended from the earlier Stephen, but I have no proof so I don't show the
connection in my records.

There were also Browns in the area who migrated from Greene County, TN;
descendants of Jotham Brown Sr. But I don't show a Scott Brown among them, and
anyway these Browns were from TN instead of Indiana.

I hope this helps, and I also hope this is correct, as I don't make any promises
about the accuracy of my records or my record-keeping. But I think it's really
special to learn about our ancestors, and I am grateful for the information that
others have shared with me.

Blessings,
Shirley Anderson, Texas
