I am wondering is anyone on the list researching the General Mercer that
Mercer Co. MO was named for? Where did he originate?

One of my Chapman families ended up there in 1860 census and stayed several
years, they had moved there from Jackson and Ross Co. Ohio. The younger
brother of this William Chapman had married Mahala Mercer in 1850. So
wondering if this might be reason William became interested and moved to
Mercer Co. MO?? Or were there other Chapman families from that area
already there and so on?

Any little bit of info might lead me closer to understanding the family
move. Thanks.
