OBITUARY

Undated article and tribute from the Nannie Brown Collection; original
source unknown. Surnames mentioned: Holder, Forsyth and Smith.

“It is with the deepest sorrow and a profound sense of personal loss,
that we chronicle the death of our dear beloved sister, Nora Forsyth,
who departed this life, May 26th, 1896, at the residence of her father,
Mr. John Holder. She was born in Monroe Co., Feb. 21, 1874. Aged 22
yrs, 3 months, 6 days. On June 18th, 1891, she was united to Joe M.
Forsyth, who is now left to mourn the loss of a true and loving wife.
She was the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Holder, and we can say
they have the sympathy of the whole community. But to our dear brother
we can say: weep not as (those) who have no hope, for we (know) that
Nora is at rest. She (often) spoke of dying and leaving (her) dear baby
and husband, and (unknown) the dark shadow’s that would (gather) around
his lonely door. (She) suffered much, but with patience, but never
feared death, and said she was ready to meet (her) God. It seems to us
her sun (went) down while it was still early (morning), yet she has gone
to the heavenly home, where hearts never ache and tears are never shed
and separations are unknown. She united with the Christian Church at
Oak Grove, in the year 1889, and lived a true and Christian life until
God called her home. Her remains were laid to rest at Oak Grove
cemetery, Eld. J.M. Smith conducting the services. She leaves father,
mother, and two dear brothers, and a loving husband and baby, besides
relatives and friends to mourn the loss of her departure. But if we are
faithful, on the evergreen (…two lines unknown…) of redemption forever.

A form and a voice from our number,
A footstep not heard at the door,
The loveliest one hat been taken,
And will she return never more.

Dear Nora thou has’t left us forever,
Thy face we will never more see,
‘Till Jesus, who hath loved us,
Will call us home to thee.

Dear husband, weep not for Nora;
She is ever watching for thee,
And in Heaven we hope to meet her,
The one whom we long to see.

Her hands are gently folder,
We have kissed her lovely brow,
But in our aching hears we know,
We have no Nora now.

Obituary

A second, undated tribute, probably from The Madison Times.

“Darling Annie, how we miss you,
Your sweet face how it is missed,
But we hope that we will meet you
In that heavenly home of bliss.

We would not call you back
Your heavy cross to bear,
When Jesus bade you lay it down
A golden crown to wear.

This lovely bud, so young, so fair,
Called home to early doom;
Just come to show how sweet a flower
In paradise would bloom.

And now within her celestial home,
Her cares and trials are o’er;
She with loved ones long since gone,
To dwell forever more.

Amid the beauties of that land,
Which eye hath never seen
No ear hath heard no heart conceived,
The blessed Lord’s redeemed.

We trust, our darling, we will meet you,
When from earth we pass away;
Oh how sweet ‘twill be to greet you,
On that bright and happy day.

Weep not for dear Annie,
Her gentle spiri’s fled,
She sweetly sleeps with Jesus,
Amongst the silent dead.

Father, mother, sisters, brothers, all,
And all her loving friends;
‘Twas hard to part with her I know,
But her suffering now forever ends.

By her sister, Elsie Forsyth
