Wade.

Undated article from the Nannie Brown Collection; original source
unknown.

“At his home in Madison, Monday, Feb’y 4, 1895, after a long and painful
illness, Little Berry Wade. Aged 79 years, 5 months and 13 days.
The subject of this notice was born in Bath county, Ky., June 18, 1815.
He came to Missouri in the year 1834. He and Elizabeth Mason were
married March 5, 1834, in Montgomery county, Mo., by Elder Raccoon John
Smith. To this union 12 children were born, 7 girls and 5 boys, 8 of
whom are still living, namely, Henry and Clifton, of this city; Samuel
and Ephriam, of Montana; James, residence unknown; Mrs. Nancy Love and
Mrs. Florence Riley, of this vicinity, and Mrs. Ann E. Seibel, of
Genesis, Ills.
He joined the Christian church in the year 1834, since which time he has
lived a faithful and consistent Christian life, and died as he had
lived, a happy man.
He, like all mortals, had his faults and weaknesses, but so many good,
true and noble deeds, as he was known too have done, overshadows them,
and we can not, if we try, see the small errors he may have committed.
The nobleness of his life and the great goodness known to have in his
long and eventful career, is paramount in the minds of the people who
knew and loved him.
He had been an Elder in the Christian church in Madison for more than
forty years, and during his active life, no one excelled him (in) church
work, or did any one (give) more freely of his means for promotion of
the cause of (Christ) than L.B. Wade.
His funeral was preached at the Christian church in this place by Elder
John Evans, of Monroe City, on Tuesday afternoon, after which his
remains were laid to rest in the Madison cemetery.
The aged wife and children of this noble man, who has lived a long,
useful and honorable life, but who has now laid down the burden and
cares of life, and entered into the joys of the Lord, have the sympathy
of the entire community in this, their hour of bereavement.”
