(DEATH) OF E.M. WETMORE
(E.M.) Wetmore, one of the best (and) most popular young me in Paris,
died last Thursday evening of peritonitis. He had been ill but a few
days and his condition was not considered serious until the last day.
The news of his death filled the community with sadness and regret for
he had been a general favorite with young and old alike since childhood.
Funeral services were conducted by Eld. Briney at the Christian Church
Saturday afternoon. The crowd in attendance was very large and the most
profound grief was manifested on every hand. The lid of the casket was
covered with cut flowers that had been sent in as tokens of sympathy by
the young people of the (town). The funeral was one of the saddest
events imaginable men, women and children who had loved him in life
mingling their tears with the tears of the stricken wife and sorrowing
parents and relatives. Ed Wetmore was 30 years of age. For several
years he had (been) a member of the Christian Church. At all times and
under all circumstances he was cheerful in disposition, honorable and
manly (in) his conduct. To see such a young man suddenly cut down on
the very (threshold) of what promised to be a (unknown) and useful life
is sad even to (a stranger), but God only knows (what) a shock it must
have been to (his) devoted young wife and parents. Words of comfort are
useless at (such) a time. The days are not (bright) to them, let the
sun shine (ever) so bright. But when time has (in) a measure healed
their wounds it will be sweet to them to know (that) other hearts have
throbbed with sympathy for them, other eyes shed tears of sorrow and
regret, and to know that the name of their lost one will be cherished in
the community long after his spirit (has) returned to the God who gave
(rest of article is missing).
