Death.

"The sudden death of our friend and neighbor, James Davenport, on Friday
the 5th inst. was a shock to relatives and friends. Though having been
in poor health for some time, yet his sudden departure was unexpected.
He had been down town the evening before, and ate a hearty supper,
retiring seemingly as well as usual. During the night he was taken sick
and a doctor called. Even then his illness did not appear to be of a
serious nature and Mr. Davenport himself did not appear to be alarmed at
his condition. About eleven o'clock the next morning his wife asked him
if he not want the doctor called again. He replied that he did, but
expired suddenly in his wife's arms before even a neighbor could be
called.

Mr. Davenport was born July 20, 1847, in the state of Kentucky, and came
to Missouri when a child, two years old. He was married June 19, 1869
to Judy I. Overstreet. Eight children were born to this union, six of
whom survive him. He united with the Christian church fourteen years
ago and to the day of his death, (lived) a consistent member."
