Untitled, undated articles; original sources unknown. Last article
possibly from the Madison Times. Extracted from the newspaper article
collection started in 1879 by Mrs. Nannie Brown of Madison, Missouri.
"(Beginning of article missing.) her heart to God and hand and name to
the Christian church at Holliday, in which church she spent the better
part of her life. She was married to Jeff. T. Noel, (unknown) 16, 1899,
which married life (unknown) short duration, only thirteen months. She
departed this life Sept. 22nd, 1900. Her remains were laid to rest in
the Holiday cemetery, there to await the resurrection. An immense
audience was present at the obsequies and the country around is made sad
by the loss of so good and Christ like a woman. Her life was a blessing
to her home, her church and the community. But alas! alas! we say
farewell, farewell, until we meet in that land where there will be no
more parting."
W.E. JOHNSON
(Mrs. Jeff Noel Killed.)
"(Mrs. Jeff Noel was thrown from) the buggy and killed near Madison (at)
8 o'clock, Saturday night. (In) company with Miss Dora Brown, she had
been to the fair at Paris. They were on their way home when the
accident occurred, and (when) only a quarter of a mile from Madison when
their horse became frightened at a mover wagon, made a sudden turn and
threw them out of the buggy. Miss Brown was unhurt. Mrs. Noel,
unfortunately, struck the ground upon her (head) with such force that
the base of her skull was fractured. She was carried to the home of
Henry Wade, who lives on the Love farm, and died two hours later without
ever fully regaining consciousness. Funeral services were held at the
Christian Church at Holliday on Monday afternoon. The crowd in
attendance was very large and the service exceedingly sad, for Mrs. Noel
was raised in that vicinity and was loved by young and old alike. Eld.
Strawn conducted the service.
Mrs. Noel was formerly Miss Nannie Glascock, a daughter of Henry
Glascock. She had been married (about) a year. She was a young woman
whose sweet disposition and noble qualities endeared her to all with
whom she cam in contact. Her sudden death was a terrible shock to her
husband and family and they have the profound sympathy of their large
circle of friends. Her husband, it will be remembered, was one of the
leading candidates for Assessor at out late primary election."
Resolutions of Respect.
Whereas God in his wisdom has taken from us, Sister Nannie Glascock
Noel, therefore be it,
Resolved, That in the death of Sister Nannie, the church has lost a
good and faithful worker, and the Sunday school a regular attendant and
supporter, and
Resolved, That though she is no more with us in the body, the spirit
of her life yet lives among us inspiring to great usefulness, and
Resolved, That we express to the bereaved husband, father, mother,
brothers and sisters, our deep sympathy in their sorrow praying that the
heavenly Father may comfort and sustain them, and
Resolved, That a copy of these Resolutions be sent to the husband and
family, one be published in the Madison Weekly TIMES."
