Death of Maggie Lee Rose.
"Miss Maggie Lee Rose, daughter of Fred Rose, died last Friday afternoon
after an illness of only nine days with spinal meningitis. Funeral
services were conducted by Rev. W.R. Painter at the Baptist church
Sunday morning and attended by a large crowd of relatives, friends and
associates of the deceased. Miss Rose was 17 years old and had been a
member of the Baptist church for four years.
Tall, handsome, intelligent and thoughtful, she was loved by her friends
and idolized by her family. When her little brother was stricken by
spinal meningitis she became a ministering angel at his bedside until
the dread disease seized upon her.
This was one of the saddest deaths we have ever chronicled. The scores
of men, women and children who mingled their tears with the tears of the
stricken family was a pathetic tribute to her standing in the community.
Truly, her sun went down while it was yet day. The family have the
sympathy of the entire town."
Associated article:
"Rob Roy Rose, the 6 year old son of Fred Rose, died Sunday afternoon
after a lingering illness of spinal meningitis. Funeral services were
held at the home on Monday morning after which the remains were laid to
rest in the New Cemetery. Few families have been afflicted as has the
family of which this bright, affectionate little fellow was a member.
Only a few weeks ago the oldest daughter, Maggie Lee, one of the noblest
girls in all the world, was stricken down by the terrible disease with
which her little brother was afflicted and died after nine days of
intense suffering.
The father became an invalid a month ago and has been on the verge of
mental as well as physical collapse ever since. The sympathy of the
whole community goes out to the heart-broken mother and the other
members of the family in the troubles that have come upon them. Words
of comfort are powerless to heal their afflictions. Time alone can dry
their tears and enable them to realize that the loved ones who left them
in sorrow have only exchanged life in a world of sadness and affliction
for life in a world of eternal happiness, and where there is no more
sickness or sighs (or tears)."
