Obituary.
"Died, near Tulip, Monroe county, Jan. 8, 1888, of Spinal Meningitis,
Mattie Bell, infant daughter of Igle and Laura L. Noel, aged 15 months.
Everything that medical aid could give, was done, by loving and tender
hands, that watched with all vigilance, during the last two weeks, to
save this precious child, this household treasure, the papa's joy, the
mother's idol, the little sister Anna's playmate; but not so, it was not
the Lord's will. Death loves a shining mark, it always seems to take
the loveliest flower that blooms, truly can we say this of little Mattie
who has always so sweet and good. She was lovely in life, and beautiful
in death, as she lay with her golden curls encircling her marble white
brow, and her little doll folded in her arms, (its accustomed place)
that Santa had just brought her, and she clung to it as long as memory
lasted. Yes, fond parents, you have all the sympathy that your friends
and neighbors can give you, in this sad stroke and hour of bereavement,
and do pray God that He will clear the mist away that intervenes between
you and your darling babe, and that He will be able to say "thy will be
done." The Lord gave, He took, He will restore, He doeth all things
well. Remember that your darling cannot come to you, but you can go to
her. She is now basking in the sunlight of God, beckoning her dear
mamma, papa and sister to meet her in that beautiful world, where there
is no death or parting."
