Obituary.
"(Rebecca) Riley departed this life Dec. 6, 1893, at 10 o'clock, a.m.
She was born in (Mercer) county, Ky., Nov 2nd, 1810, and came to
Missouri in 1849. She united with the Baptist church in her 20th year
and had proved a faithful member ever since. She was spared to us for
83 years, but the time we have been with her seems like a very short
while to be with one so dear. But we do not mourn as those who have
no hope, for we know she is happy. We have heard her say that she was
ready to go any time the Lord called her. On the evening of the day she
was taken sick, she sang several old songs and prayed, and she told us
not to weep for she was going home; that the Lord had spared her to a
good old age. Eld. Bruner conducted the funeral services at Middle
Grove, after which her remains were laid to rest in the cemetery there
with her husband and three departed children. She leaves seven children
and a great number of friends. Our loss is her eternal gain. She bore
her suffering with patience and when she was called to go she peacefully
resigned her spirit to its maker."
Our mother dear, so nigh to us,
Has left these lower scenes;
She slumbers now (beneath) the sod,
Ah now, how sad it seems!
Dear mother, we shall see no more,
While we on earth remain;
But on the resurrection morn
We'll see they face again.
And when we meet in heaven's bower,
We shall be satisfied;
When joyful through eternity,
We'll not regret she died.
But oh! Dear mother, our tears must fall
We must lament thy fate,
And can we, will we, e'er forget
While in the present state?
Could we recall the days gone by,
And see thy form once more!
Oh, could we hear they pleasant voice,
Our anguish would be o'er.
It cannot be, and we must mourn;
Thy form we cannot see;
Then mother dear, farewell, farewell,
A long adieu to thee.
