"(Unable to read beginning of article) .of her leading and most
(unknown) citizens, died at the (home of) his daughter in Moberly,
(last) (unknown) morning at about 4 o'clock. Of his funeral, the
Moberly (Daily) Monitor of Monday, says, "The funeral of the late James
H. Ownby took place yesterday at Middle Grove at 11 o'clock. Quite a
(large) number of the friends and relatives of the deceased showed the
regard for his memory by attending the funeral, and were (kindly)
entertained by friends at Middle Grove. There was an immense crowd in
attendance from the surrounding country, all giving sincere evidence of
their esteem for one whose life had been so unselfish and free from
reproach. Briney preached the funeral sermon and paid a high tribute to
the many virtues of Mr. Ownby and drew valuable lessons from life and
character."
