newspaper article collection started in 1879 by Mrs. Nannie Brown of
Madison, Missouri.
"For the (.unable to read.) (1890). Number of pupils enrolled: (134).
Average number attending each day, 118.
In room No. 1, I.(I.) Hartford tech'r, the following av. grades of 90 or
over were made in all studies pursued: Lelah Love, 95; Vada Lenhart, 94;
Tessie Waller, 94; Wesley Thomas, 90; Florence Hill, 92; Laura Hill, 91;
Etta Brownfield, 94; Bertha Roberson, 92; Fannie Giddings, 90. Those
receiving a grade of 100 in deportment were Edgar Dunaway, Annie Dawson,
Vada Lenhart, Pearl Noel, and Effie Tuttle. Carelessness in the
practice of penmanship during the month so reduced that grade as to
prevent the general average of some from reaching 90.
Room No. 2, Miss Ida Hill teacher. Number enrolled, 47. The following
pupils received a grade of 100 in deportment: Lettie Davis, Kate
Forsythe, Elsie Forsythe, Maud Roberson, Flora Hill, Magge Yeager, Effie
Farrell, Pearl Mitchell, Bessie Butler, Lena Montague, Pete Wade, Homer
Quisenbury, Claud Davis, Harry Atterbury, Scott Chowning. The following
received a grade of 90 in general average: Erle Forrest, Hellen Davis,
Tony Snidow, Roy Roberson, Lona Todd, Ulan Maupin, Maud Roberson, Flora
Hill, Pet Harper, Maggie Yeager, Bertha Moore, Harry Atterbury, Alice
Farrell, Asa Egleston, Walter Love, Scott Chowning, Florence Brown.
Room No. 3, Miss Fannie M. Sanford teacher. Number pupils enrolled,
(51). Those having a grade of 100 in deportment: Chester Atterbury,
Clay Brown, Ruby Eubank, Madge (Unknown), Mattie Morris, Jessie Read,
Sallie Enochs. A. grade: Dora Brown, 91.5; Bertha (Unknown), 92.5; Lida
Brownfield, 90; (Unknown) Dawson, 93; Dollie Brown, (.unable to read)
Snidow, (90); (Unknown) Atterbury (.unable to read.) Hill, 91; Maggie
Griffith, (93); (Unknown) Quisenbury, 92; Shelby (Unknown), 93; Hester
