Untitled, undated article; probably from the Monroe Appeal. Extracted
from the newspaper article collection started in 1879 by Mrs. Nannie
Brown of Madison, Missouri.
"After a short illness of brain fever, James Eubank passed away at his
home in this city on Saturday night, October 12. Mr. Eubank was one of
the pioneer citizens of Monroe county. He was born in Tennessee in
1815, and moved to Missouri in 1840. He settled at Madison and laid the
foundation of the present thriving town by opening a store for the sale
of general merchandise. In 1860 he moved to Paris and embarked in
business. He prospered and accumulated sufficient means to pass his
last years (at) ease. In 1845, he united with the Christian church and
for half a century was a consistent and honorable Christian man.
For many years Mr. Eubank was (afflicted) with deafness but retained
(the) power of speech. He was an incessant talker and kept well posted
(on) the affairs of the day. He leaves (a) wife and four children to
mourn his death. Funeral services were (held) at the Christian church
Tuesday, after which the remains were (laid to) rest in the new
cemetery."
