Undated article; original source unknown. Extracted from the newspaper
article collection started in 1879 by Mrs. Nannie Brown of Madison,
Missouri.
MINNIE PARKER.
"Minnie Parker was born Jan. 7, 1879, and departed this life June 17,
1902, aged 23 years, 5 months and 9 days. Eight months ago she was
taken with consumption. However, she remained bright and hopeful, and
no murmur escaped her lips concerning the lot of suffering apportioned
to her. On Sunday evening last her mother told her she could not live.
She looked up and said: 'Why, mamma, I never thought but that I should
get well, but it is alright. You must forgive me and not think me
selfish, but I hope I may go very soon.' Though ambitious to live, the
alternative she resigned into the hands of her heavenly Father and asked
them not to grieve for her. The poet's thought was hers:
Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea.
Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark!
For tho from out our bourne of time and place,
The flood may bear me far.
I hope to see my pilot's face,
When I have crossed the bar.
Fear was entertained that the end would be painful, but after a long
talk with her sister Lilah about 'going home,' she called the rest of
the family about her, and without a tremor of pain she 'crossed the
bar.' Miss Parker was converted and untied with the Congregational
church in 1895 joining the C.E. society at the (same) time. She served
