Joel Noel Charity Davis md Jefferson Co Ky 11-7-1822. Extracted from
the newspaper article collection started in 1879 by Mrs. Nannie Brown of
Madison, Missouri.
"DIED - Near Middle Grove in this county, March (2d) 1880, Mrs. Charita
Noel, wife of (Joel) Noel, dec'd., in the 80th year of her (life). She
was born in Jefferson county, Ky., Jan. 10th, 1801; married in 1823;
move to Missouri in 1825; (united) with the Christian Church at Madison
in 1850, subsequently took membership with the Church at Middle Grove,
of which she remained a member until her death. She was the mother of
11 children, (eight) of whom are still living and (three are) dead.
Coming to Missouri in an early day, she with her husband, enduring the
many hardships of a pioneer life. At that time the deer, the wolf, and
the red man roamed the dense forests and the broad savannahs of many
parts of this, then, sparsely settled country. In the midst of the
comparatively wilds of a new country, she began the arduous task of
rearing a large family of children, in which she succeeded at raising
nearly all to manhood and womanhood, eight of whom survive her.
Possess of those qualities that constitute the devoted wife, the
affectionate mother, and the kind neighbor, she was (unknown) in all
these relations. She (was noted) for her attention as (unknown) to the
sick and always the sympathizing friend of (the) afflicted.
Kind and gentle in disposition, and was highly respected and loved by
all. The pure life, stable principles, constant faithfulness and
unselfish devotion to the convictions commanded the respect of all who
knew her. She loved her children with all the tenderness and affections
of a mother's love and they, too, were ever true and devoted to their
dear mother.
During the last three years of her life she suffered under the malady of
physical blindness; yet she was always patient and cheerful; and when
the summons of her final departure came, she was ready and willing to
go, and calmly and serenely she passed away, to (the) resting place
above, to meet loved ones gone before.
The large and sympathizing concourse of people who attended her funeral
attest the high esteem in which she was held by the community. May the
Lord bless the dear children who so deeply feel their loss with all the
riches of grace that they may finally share with a loved mother the
glories of a better world.
