Obituary.
"Charles M. Mason, son of William H. and Eliza J. Mason, of Madion, Mo.,
was born near Madison, March 29, 1864 and dies at T.J. King's in Walker
county, Ala., January 26, 1896. He came to Alabama, September 188, and
was happily together until God called him from labor to rest. As agent
for the K.C.M & B.R.R., he was faithful to attend to all business
committed to his care. He was kind and courteous to all, and therby
wond the friendship of all.
He was an affectionate husband and a dutiful son. His health failed
last summer and it was soon ascertained that he had consumption. About
the 1st of January he decided to go to San Antonio, Tex., hoping thereby
to regain his health; but before starting he desired to join the church,
which he had been talking of doing for some time. So I was sent for and
received him into the M.E. South, January 9, 1896, at the home of T.J.
King. The next day he and his wife took the train for San Antonio, but
when they arrived there the physicians advised Sister Mason to return
home immediately, which they did.
His sister, Mrs. M.M. Hendricks and his brother, Everett Mason, of
Madison, Mo., came a few days before his death, and they and all his
friends did all they could for him; but all that doctor, wife and
friends could do did not avail anything. So at 9"30 a.m. Jan 26, he was
called to his reward. I was with him when he died. He expressed a
number of times as being ready for death. About thirty minutes before
he died he asked if the doctor had come. When he was told that he had
not he said: 'If he does not come quick he will not find me here, for (I
can't) stand it much longer.' (.missing the next few lines.) of the
bereaved ones, and keep as all in the way of obedience, and we will
(meet) where there shall be no parting."
