Suicide at Paris.
Ira Dulany Blows His Brains Out With a Revolver.
"Shortly after dinner last Monday, Coroner Hulen was summoned by wire to
hold an inquest over the dead body of Ira Dulany, who had committed
suicide at the home of his mother, about one mile south of Paris, at
about the noon hour on that day.
The particulars as we learn them are about as follows: Ira Dulany, the
unfortunate young man, was single and about thirty years of age, and
lived with his mother on the farm near Paris. He was subject to fits of
despondency, but while free from them was a lively and entertaining
companion. On Monday morning he was in Paris, and meeting his brother,
Edward Dulany, invited him home with him to dinner. At first Edward
thought that he would not go, but noting that his brother appeared low
spirited and despondent, accepted the invitation and started home with
him.
While on their way to the home of their mother, Ira brought up a
favorite subject of his about going (out) West, but his brother having
in the past, dissipated all ideas of this kind, again used kindly
arguments against such a course. When the two brothers arrived at the
house, Edward stopped in the sitting room to shake hands and talk with
his mother, while Ira passed through the room and went upstairs to his
room. Shortly afterward the mother and brother downstairs heard a noise
resembling an upstairs door being slammed together, but paid no
attention to it and when dinner was ready, Edward stepped to the foot of
the stairs and called to Ira to come to his dinner. Receiving no answer
to his call Edward went upstairs and found Ira lying across the bed in
his room dead, with a bullet hole directly in the center of his forehead
and a 38-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver lying on his breast. No other
cause than despondency could (be) found at the inquest to justify the
rash act."
