Died.
"It becomes our painful duty to record the death of little Della Moss,
daughter of the late R.B. and Mattie Moss, which occurred at the
residence of the editor of this paper at half past seven o'clock on the
morning of the 12th inst., from pneumonia.
The little one lingered for about twelve day, and although she had every
attention that loving hearts and willing hands could give, Death, the
grim Reaper, took her in her innocence and purity, and she has joined
the angel chorus, there to sing throughout all eternity. How mysterious
are the dispensations of Providence! How inscrutable are his ways! It
is hard sometimes to believe and trust that the decrees of providence
are for the best and made for our good. But one short year ago she who
is now widowed and childless was a happy wife and mother. But the
loving husband was taken away, and now the dear babe has been called,
and its death has well-nigh broken the fond mother's heart.
The story is often told, but we never know its meaning until our hearts
have wound and twined themselves around a loved one, and we stand and
watch for the last fluttering sign. Another little mound is raised in
the grave-yard to tell the story. There the grass will grow and the
flowers will bloom and the birds will sing, but the mother will go with
a heavy heart and will weep as only a mother can. Relatives and friends
will remember when her eyes looked appealingly into theirs when they
stood powerless to stay the hand that never beckons in vain.
They will remember when they kissed her beautiful, pale cheek as she lay
in her coffin, and will remember when they stood by the grave and saw
the cold earth hide her from their sight. Yet, when they tend the
flowers upon her grave and tenderly weave a garland to deck the marble
that marks the spot, may they remember, too, when a golden harp was
unstrung and laid aside, while a beautiful angel twined roses and lilies
for her crown."
