Untitled, undated article; original source unknown. Extracted from the
newspaper article collection started in 1879 by Mrs. Nannie Brown of
Madison, Missouri.
"Mrs. Martha (?) Davis, (widow of) the late Elder J.O. Davis, died at
her home in Monroe City, on Feb. 11th, 1892. The Monroe City Democrat,
speaking of the death says: Last Thursday morning Mrs. Davis got up
apparently in her usual health. After attending to some household
duties she sat down to a table and wrote a card to a gentleman at
Madison who collects her rents there, about business matters. Just as
she finished writing a door blew open and she got up to close it, but
before she had crossed the room took sick suddenly and called to her
daughter to assist her to the couch, where she laid down. She seemed to
realize at once that death was near and told her children she believed
she was about to die and gave them such advice as a good mother would be
expected to give her darlings as her last injunctions, and then told
them to send for a doctor."
