Untitled, undated announcement; original source unknown. Extracted from
the newspaper article collection started in 1879 by Mrs. Nannie Brown of
Madison, Missouri.
"Elizabeth McMorris departed this life at 7 o'clock on Wednesday, April
9th 1888, of pneumonia. She was (38) years, 3 months and 18 days old.
She was born in Madison county, Ill., in 1849 and was married to James
McMorris December 12th 1867 at the age of 17, she made profession of
religion and united with the Christian church. She was an affectionate
wife and mother, during her illness of one week she bore her intense
sufferings with patience and fortitude, she was loved best by those that
knew her, a delightful and loving wife, a kind and affectionate mother,
warm hearted and generous as a friend.
She will be sadly missed in the community where she lived, she has gone
to join her near and dear ones on the other side of the river so cold.
Gone to await the coming of those left behind. It was hard to yield her
up into the arms of him who gave her but death, ever loved a shining
mark, and heaven is forgiving, God is love. She was cut down in the
summer of life with all its joys before her the future all united. Tis
so hard to say they will be done to the husband and children.
We extend our heartfelt sympathy, may the angel of peace hover over and
guide them in this the dark hour of life, may we all learn to rely and
lean on the one that says come unto me all ye that are weary and heavy
laden and I will give you rest. And while the bereaved husband and five
children mourn, they must remember life at best is brief and soon they
too may be called; then let them so live that when the summons come they
bay be prepared to meet her on the other side where peace and happiness
rule and parting is not more.
She told her broken hearted husband that she hated to leave him but the
lord had called her and she had to go, she kissed that farewell kiss and
told them to meet her in heaven. After a brief but very appropriate
exercise by Elder Featherston her body was committed to the dust. The
remains were laid to rest at the Swindell grave yard. Peace to her
ashes.
The bereaved husband desires to return thanks to the the neighbors for
th their kindness during his wife's illness and death."
