Obituary.
"Died, Jan. 25, 1890, Mrs. Mary Giddings, aged about 47 years. She
united with the Christian church early in life and loved the church of
her choice, its ministers and members; but it has pleased an alwise God
to summon her from our midst. She was the daughter of A.G. and Rebecca
Todd, and her little daughter survives her. 'Tis sad the good die young
- whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth. It has been truly fulfilled in
the present case. As a loving daughter, a gentle sister and a devoted
wife, she was (unknown). Her womanly and Christian graces inspired her
in the love and faith in the Lord and Saviour, that is felt by none but
the true Christian. She dispersed charity and sisterly love wherever
she went, drew about her a large (unknown) (of) friends who will ever
(remember) her as one of Jesus' lambs, (unknown) the kind and generous
hearted Mary has been snatched from our society, leaving a vacancy never
(to) be filled; gone to mingle her (voice) with the angels in heaven,
gone to meet her dear husband, mother, sister and brother, who have gone
before - who have crossed the bright shore and are safe in the (arms) of
Jesus - who were waiting and watching to welcome the (unknown) and while
we mourn for the (unknown) one who has gone never to return she is
singing praises to the Lamb. Dear kindred, think of her as another
treasure laid up in heaven, as a jewel added to the (crown) of the
blessed Saviour that will shine brighter and brighter throughout the
ages of eternity. This is a great sorrow and hard to bear and ever will
it live to the heart and soul, but God grant you grace dear father,
daughter and brothers, to say no will of mine but thine will be done.
God only can know and heal the wounds in a broken heart; he doeth all
things well. When we think of the body free from pain and the eyes
filled with holy light we should try to feel reconciled, but we look
around and see one vacant chair, the circle of home is broken, tears
flow where smiles beamed and there is a gloom in the house now; yes,
broken here, but just beyond the mist parts again, then our tears will
be turned to joy - for then we shall learn that though the way was dark
a kind and loving Father was leading us on and up by the only way we
could safely go to that eternal city."
Her hands are gently folded,
She sleeps beneath the sod,
There to await the judgment,
Of a just and holy God.
