Untitled, undated article; original source unknown. Extracted from the
newspaper article collection started in 1879 by Mrs. Nannie Brown of
Madison, Missouri.
"(Unable to read first line.) decided that Miss Ulah Maupin of Madison
had spoken her piece the best and was entitled to the prize as the best
Elocutionist of Monroe county, Miss Ulah should think this a great
honor, as it is a great honor to represent Old Monroe in anything. Miss
Ulah's contestants all deserve credit for the manner in which they
delivered their recitations. Miss Ulah surpassed them all. Every one
present agreed with the judges in their decision. We hope that Miss
Ulah will win the watch and are almost sure she will."
