Obituary.
"John Newman Meals, was born in Va., Feb. 17, 1808, moved with his
parents to Ky. when small and from there to Howard county, this state,
where he lived until 1836, when he married Susan F. (.leeway) moved to
this county and settled near Porter's Chapel in the spring of '39. He
moved to Flat Creek, where he resided 'til the day of his death, dying
Tuesday evening, May 7th, 1889, at the advanced age of 81 years, 2
months and 20 days. He had been a consistent member of Bethel
Cumberland church for about 40 years. He was a quiet, peaceable man, a
good neighbor, an indulgent father loved, honored and respected by all
who knew him. He leaves two sons and one daughter to mourn his loss,
his wife, three sons and a daughter having passed over the river before.
May he rest in peace and the whole family ultimately meet on that ever
green shore."
