Untitled, undated article; probably from the Monroe Appeal. Extracted
from the newspaper article collection started in 1879 by Mrs. Nannie
Brown of Madison, Missouri.

"Alfred Curtright, son of Robt. A. Curtright of this vicinity, was
instantly killed by a falling rock while working in a lead mine at
Galena, Kansas, last Thursday evening. The rock struck him squarely
upon the back of the neck. No one saw the accident occur and the first
known of it was when the unfortunate young man was found dead in the
bottom of the shaft. The remains were brought home on Saturday and
funeral services were conducted by Eld. Strawn at Union on Saturday
morning.

Alfred was 26 years old and was an industrious, reliable, popular young
man. God only knows what a shock the news of his untimely death must
have been to his parents. He was the first of a family of ten children
to be called away. The Appeal joins with a host of others in sincere
sympathy for the bereaved ones.

>From the Purcell (I.T.) Citizen: Alfred Curtright was for almost two
years a resident of Purcell and formed many warm friendships. He was a
young man of excellent habits and his genial disposition won the
admiration of all his acquaintances, who sincerely regret to hear of his
death and extend to Guy and the other relatives sincere sympathy in
their deep bereavement."
