"Obituary. - Died at his home (3) miles north of Madison, Saturday Dec.
8, 1900. aged 57, Charles Henry Overfelt, with complicated disease of
the stomach. He was only confined to his bed for two or three weeks,
though had been gradually declining for several months. Prior to this
he had been a man (blessed) with a strong constitution and was loath to
yield to that monster disease that preyed upon his body, although he had
all the attention that could be given by kind friends and the best
medical skill, yet of no avail. The writer of this sketch visited him
often during his last illness and he bore his suffering with fortitude
and patience and said he was resigned and not afraid to die, but desired
if possible to get well. He was a man of moral habits, strictly honest,
truthful and reliable in every respect, a good neighbor, and liked by
all who knew him. He leaves a loving wife and five children, three boys
and two girls, all grown, a host of relatives and friends to mourn his
loss, though we trust that our loss (is) his eternal gain. May the God
(of) heaven watch over and protect the bereaved wife and children is the
prayer of the writer."
