Undated articles and poem; original sources unknown but first article is
possibly from the Madison Times. Extracted from the newspaper article
collection started in 1879 by Mrs. Nannie Brown of Madison, Missouri.
Mrs. Cornelia Hall At Rest.
"Last week's Times contained a brief notice to the effect that Mrs.
Cornelia Hall, living a short distance north of town, was ill and
threatened with pleurisy, but early Thursday morning the sad news was
brought to town that she had died at three o'clock that morning.
Mrs. Hall and her husband, who died some twenty-two years ago, came to
Monroe county from Ohio in 1871 or 72. She was the mother of seven
children, all of whom have reached their maturity and survive her. She
was about sixty years of age and had been a faithful and consistent
member of the Old School Baptist church for some twenty-five years past.
Mrs. Hall was a business woman and managed her large estate in a most
creditable manner, but withal she was kind and charitable in her every
action, and she will not alone be missed by her children and a large
circle of friends and acquaintances, but by the entire community in
which she lived.
Her funeral was preached at Oak Grove church by Elder Sutton, at 3
o'clock Friday afternoon, October 5th, and her remains were laid to rest
in Oak Grove cemetery, surrounded by a large concourse of sorrowing
relatives and friends. Contrary to the general supposition, she left no
will, but had frequently expressed her satisfaction with the laws of
Missouri, governing estates, as what she had she wanted to go to her
children. Her estate is variously estimated in value at from $50,000.00
to $60,000.00."
Died.
"Mrs. Cornelia hall departed this life, Oct 3rd, 1900. She was confined
to her bed about one week, but had been complaining some three weeks.
Her first trouble was a rupture of the veins on her ankles. When they
began to improve, heart trouble set up, which caused her death. She
came near dying about one year ago, with the same disease, but recovered
and was strong and healthy.
She has but one sister who resides in Cleveland, Ohio, all of her
relatives being dead but the one sister. She was born in Sangate,
Benington county, Vt., July 28, 1840. She was 60 years, 3 months and 24
days old. She was converted and united with the Primitive Baptist
church in 1876. She was a good neighbor, a loving mother and a zealous
Christian. She has 7 children, all of whom are married and reside in
this county, and stand as monuments of her training many virtues."
In Memory of Her.
"Farewell, dear mother, we will see you no more,
Until we meet on that ever green shore.
But a crown triumphant now you may wear.
Yes, gone to that city of pure delight,
Angels were waiting by day and by night,
Waiting to waft her spirit above,
Waiting all night to claim our beloved.
On the wings of the morning, her soul took its flight,
To Jesus her savior, her chief delight,
A home left so lonely, so sad and so drear,
For her beloved children to meet and shed tears,
Tears of such sorrow, no one can know,
Who only have lost a kind mother so.
Look up and be cheerful, brothers, sisters, I pray,
Don't you be down hearted today,
For there will be a meeting in Heaven above,
If you trust Jesus, the One that she loved.
Trust him, just trust him, in sickness and health,
