(Unknown) and Biographical Notes and Sketches.

Continued from last week.

"Dr. D.B. Wilcox, whose name (and reputation) are known nearly all over
the western part of Monroe county, and doubtless to every man, woman and
child in Marion township, was born in Kentucky in 1825. Studied
medicine and attended lectures at Louisville Medical Institute,
receiving a diploma from that institution. Practiced his profession in
Kentucky for a number of years, and came to Missouri in 1873, locating
in the Cross Hollow school house neighborhood, south-east of Holliday;
but after remaining there about eight months came to Madison, where he
has since been in continuous practice of his profession, his practice
very extensive and covering a large territory. Indeed, during season of
failing health among the people the doctor's strength of endurance is
often severely tried. During the past six months his earnings have
aggregated a sum exceeding $1,400; and but for his easy and
accommodating disposition he might now be in easy circumstance. His
success is almost wonderful and his losses among patients make but a
very small per cent of the total number of cases treated.

Dr. Wilcox has been married twice, his first wife dying in 1878, and the
last - who was a daughter of L.B. Wade - in 1883. He has three children
by his first wife living, the only child of the second marriage having
died. He was made a Mason in Kentucky in 1862, is a member of the
Triple Alliance and of the Christian church. Though of a cheerful and
companionable disposition, and possessed of an aptitude for relating
short, pointed anecdotes, Dr. Wilcox is, generally speaking, a man of
few words and quiet habits, taking but little interest in matters not
connected with his profession."
