"(. Unable to read first line) after death (has entered) our midst and
taken (one of) our (highly) respected citizens. This time a husband and
father was called and a home made (sad by) this enemy. T.E.T. Hayden
was born February 20, 1850, died October 31, 1901. He was born and
lived in Monroe county all his life, with the exception of fourteen
years which was spent with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Enoch Hayden in
Macon county, near Macon City. He was married to Miss Sarah Swindell,
September 9, 1975. Six children were born of this union, two of whom
have passed over the river. He leaves a wife, four children, two
sisters, Mrs. Mariam (Chandler) of Excello, Macon county and Mrs.
Josephine Griffith, of Monroe City, and one brother, Harvey Hayden, of
this vicinity. He (united) with the Christian church (in 1876), under
the preaching of (Rev.) J.C. Davis. Mr. Hayden (has) been a great
sufferer for many (months) with that fatal disease, (consumption). He
died with the assurance of sweet rest (beyond). Funeral services were
conducted at his late home by Eld. J.(?) Briney, after which the remains
were laid to rest in the Swindell burying ground. The Times extends
condolence to this bereaved family."
