Thanks to the help from a genealogist of this area, named
Kathleen Wilham,
I have located my ancestors in Monroe Co., MO. They are the Swindle families, who settled in Monroe Co., MO about 1830, or slightly earlier.
They came from NC with the ENOCHS and DAVIS families.
They intermarried several times with these families.
I have found in the online records there, that they spell their names : Swindell, Swindel, and Swindle variations, interchangably. I did searches on each different spelling.
Starting with 1835 we see land patents and census records for the following names in Monroe Co., MO:
Joel Swindel; John Swindel; James B. Swindell; John Swindell, Joseph Swindell; William W. Swindell, and William C. Swindell.
The Old Settlers list as of 1889 shows: William C. Swindell born 1810 VA and Mary D. Swindell, widow of Joel, b. 16/Mar/1804 Orange Co., VA.
William W. Swindell married Emily E. Enoch 2/Aug/1846 Monroe Co., MO.
Emily Swindell married Lusford Stephens 16/ June/ 1835 Monroe Co., MO.
S. Madison and Sallie M. Swindle born a female baby, no date. Monroe Co., MO
Mary Ann Swindel married Thomas N. Stephens 11/Feb/1834
James B. Swindle was elected Monroe Co. assessor 1842.
Virginia O. Swindle married Joseph Calaway 23/Feb/1843
There is a cemetary in Monroe Co., MO called :
SWINDELL CEMETARY, there is no online index of names.
The closest town is Madison.
March 1919, a newspaper article mentions Bennie Swindell.
If any of these names pertain to you, please write to me.
I descend from Nancy Weaver Swindle b. 1815 Ashe Co., NC. I have yet to find her parents names.
Lillian Kathleen Martin
