Untitled, undated articles; original sources unknown. Extracted from
the newspaper article collection started in 1879 by Mrs. Nannie Brown of
Madison, Missouri.

"Staples Ragland, the two year old son of W.H. Ragland, of this place,
decided last week that he would have a little fire of his own and while
Mrs. Ragland was busy with her household duties in another room, secured
Mr. Ragland's umbrella and thrust it into the stove then pulling it out
again, threw it on the floor where it quickly caught a rug on fire.
When Mrs. Ragland entered the room she found umbrella, rug and carpet
burning and Staples standing by and enjoying the scene. Had she stayed
out a few minutes longer a disastrous fire would probably have
resulted."

"W.H. Ragland and wife have welcomed a little girl baby to their home,
she putting in her appearance on Wednesday morning. Staples, their four
year old son, looks upon the little one as a dangerous rival in his
parents affections and insists that she be (given) to (one) of the
neighbors."
