Death of Mrs. W.F. Settles.

"Mrs. W.F. Settles died at her home, five miles south of Madison last
Sunday evening about nine o'clock. About three weeks ago Mrs. Settles
was stricken with measles, and with them took pneumonia, from which her
death resulted. Mrs. Settles leaves a husband and five children, two of
them grown, and the youngest a baby only four months old. Mrs. Settles
was a member of the Christian church and was a lovely Christian
character, noted for her genial, sunny, disposition, and great kindness
of heart. A number of years ago, when living in Middle Grove, an infant
was left on Mrs. Settles' doorsteps and she took the little stranger in
and cared for it as tenderly as one of her own. It lived to be two
years old and though often urged to place it in an orphans' asylum, she
would never consent to part with it, but kept it until the day of its
death. Though having more then her share of trouble she kept a brave
heart and cheerful spirit, and her influence for good will long be felt.
She was buried at the Swindell graveyard, Tuesday afternoon. To her
bereaved family we extend our sympathy."
