"James S. Frank, one of Maryville's old and honored residents passed
away last Friday night, March 22, in a hotel in Atchison, Kansas. He
had gone there a week previous in company of his son, Walton C. Frank,
to receive medical treatment. He was seized with a bilious attack the
day of his death, which brought on heart failure, and he died so quickly
that his son was not aware of death's approach five minutes before it
came. His death was a great shock to his children. They knew he was in
a feeble condition, and were giving him every care to prolong his life,
although he had to desire to live since the death of his wife last
October. The body was brought to Maryville Saturday and taken to the
home of his daughter, Mrs. (Fred) Kurtz, on South Market street, with
whom he was making his home. The funeral services were held at his late
residence Monday afternoon, conducted by his pastor, Rev. H.A. Denton,
of the First Christian church, and his friend and former pastor, Rev.
Cleo M. Chilton, of St. Joseph. Both paid tribute to his memory that
were true delineations of the good man's life and character. His body
was laid to rest in (Oak) Hill cemetery by that of his wife, and as he
requested, 'as close to her side as possible.'

James S. Frank was born near Port Royal, Kentucky, November 7, 1830, and
was married to (Ethel) Craig, at Ghent, Kentucky on February 4, 1852
(unable to read next few lines.) Atchison, Kansas, on March (22), 1907,
being in his 77th year. His wife died October 28, 1906, at the age of
seventy-six. Mr. Frank confessed his Lord and united with the Christian
church in his your, and ever afterward was a devoted, faithful
Christian, and loyal at all times to the church. He was elder of the
church at Ghent, Kentucky, for many years, and when without a pastor he
usually conducted the services, exhorting the brethren to faithful lives
and inviting sinners to confess the Christ. After he took their
confessions and baptized them and received them into the church. Upon
his removal to Maryville he became one of the elders of the Maryville
Christian church, and served in that capacity for many years.

During his whole Christian life he never neglected to make a weekly
offering for the support of the Lord's work. He has finished his work
and gone to his reward. Mr. Frank lived an ideal home life. His
devotion to his wife and children was unfailing. A large circle of
friends will miss his generous, genial, kindly, helpful friendship. He
leaves six children: Walton C., of Maryville; John E., of King City,;
Eva F. Ridgeway, of Glenwood, Ia.; Joshua C., of Madison, Mo.; James D.,
of Blanchard, Ia., and India F. Kurtz, of Maryville."- Nodaway Democrat
