newspaper article collection started in 1879 by Mrs. Nannie Brown of

"(One) of the saddest deaths that (unable to read next few words.)
painful duty to chronicle for years past was that of Will Morphis, son
of Rev. and Mrs. J.H. Morphis, which occurred at their residence in this
place last Sunday afternoon at a few moments before four o'clock. He
had been sick with typhoid fever about two weeks previous to his death,
and everything known to medical skill, careful nursing and the prayers
of fond parents were done for him and offered up, that he might be
spared. But it was not to be, for He who doeth all things well, had
decreed otherwise, and his spirit was wafted away unto the God who gave
it.
Will Morphis was an intelligent, energetic and popular young man, loved
and respected by his associates, and one who gave great promise of a
bright and useful future, and his untimely demise is keenly regretted by
all who knew him, and sadly mourned by those of his more intimate
friends and companions. To the parents upon which the heavy hand of
affliction has been laid, the sympathy and heartfelt condolence of the
community goes out most freely and the Times voices the universal hope
that He (who) sent the terrible affliction up (to) them, may give them
strength (and) courage to bear their pain and sorrow."
