Articles from unknown sources with handwritten dates of April 10 and 15,
1957, respectively. Extracted from the newspaper article collection
started in 1879 by Mrs. Nannie Brown of Madison, Missouri.



Mrs. Scott Chowning



"Lillian Gidding Chowning, 77, died at 7:30 Thursday morning, at the
Woodland hospital in Moberly. She was taken to the hospital Wednesday
p.m. at 4 o'clock for a check up and remained as a patient but her
condition wasn't reported as serious.

She was born the daughter of Thomas M. and Mary Gidding on August 20,
1880 in Monroe County and spent her entire life in Monroe County. At
the age of nine due to her mother's death, she made her home in Madison
with her aunt, Mrs. Tenny Bassett. She attended Madison public schools
and Christian College. She is survived by her husband, J.Scott Chowning
and one son, Wray Chowning.

The body was taken to the Speed & Blakey Funeral Home in Paris.
Services will be held Sunday, 2:00 o'clock p.m. at the Madison Christian
Church with Rev. C.W. Cornn in charge of the service."

"The ashes of Mrs. J. Scott Chowning were buried Friday in the family
lot at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The Rev. C.W. Cornn conducted a short
service at the gravesite."
