Lee D. Ash Dies After Long Illness
"Funeral services for Lee D. Ash, former Monroe Countian and long time
school superintendent, who died Friday morning at his home in Palmyra,
were conducted at 2:00 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Thompson funeral
home by the Rev. Summerfield and burial was made in the Sunset Hill
Cemetery. Mr. Ash attended local schools, William Jewell College and
Chicago college. He taught various places throughout the state and was
(elected) superintendent of Monroe County schools, a position he held
for a number of years. He later served as supt. of the Palmyra schools
and made his home there. For many years he was a resident of this city
and community and was at one time associated with his brother, Robert
Ash, in the hardware business here. He is survived by his wife, the
former Miss Grace Philpott, a daughter, Mrs. Conrad Nill of Palmyra, two
grandchildren, one great grandchild and a brother, Earl Ash of near
Granville. A son, Lt. Chas. Ash, was killed during World War II, when a
plane on which he was a passenger, crashed in Florida."
