from the newspaper article collection started in 1879 by Mrs. Nannie
Brown of Madison, Missouri.
N.L. Brownfield Dies at Madison After Long Illness
"Nathaniel L. Brownfield, (70), (a) retired Madison businessman, died at
his home here at (about) 10:45 o'clock Wednesday morning. (Mr.)
Brownfield had been in ill health for more than two years. He suffered
a (stroke) two weeks ago and never fully regained consciousness. He was
born March 9, 1885, near Madison, the son of Mr. and Mrs. W.S.
Brownfield. He lived in or near Madison all of his life. He was in the
grocery business for 40 years and the coal business for a number of
years, retiring about eight years ago. He was a member of the Methodist
Church and the Odd Fellows Lodge. He was married in 1905 to Miss Sarah
Overfelt, and October 2, would have been their 50th anniversary.
Survivors in addition to his wife include one daughter, Mrs. Richard
Coates, Madison; and a sister, Mrs. Alice Enslen, Kansas City. A son,
Glen, died in 1948, and he also was preceded in death by three brothers,
Albert, Hiram and O.E. Brownfield. Funeral services will be held at the
Madison Christian Church at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, with the Rev.
C.W. Cornn officiating. Burial will be in Madison Cemetery. The body
will be at the home until time for services."
