article collection started in 1879 by Mrs. Nannie Brown of Madison,
Missouri.
James Newton Hancock Pinned Under Tractor Trailer in Pond, Drowns
"James Newton Hancock, 64, farmer, was accidentally drowned in a pond on
his farm near Madison around noon Saturday. He was hauling fence posts
on the pond dam at the time his death occurred. He was found penned in
the water under the trailer by his wife when he did not appear for
dinner. On seeing the trailer in the pond Mrs. Hancock summoned help
from neighbors and his body was found. He was born Aug. 11, 1894 at
Lentner, Mo. He was the son of James Hancock and Susan Carey Hancock.
Mr. Hancock is survived by his wife, Ruby Mahalia Hancock of the home;
one son, Leo Hancock, Madison; two sister(s), Mrs. Jeff Hartgrove and
Mrs. Owen Hartgrove, Madison. The body was at the Thompson-Mackler
Chapel until services which were held Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the
Baptist Church with Rev. G.E. Neeley in charge of the services. Burial
was (at Sunset Hill, Madison)."
