Vincent Hess Died
"Vincent Hess, 48, died around 3 o'clock Friday afternoon in a Kansas
City hospital where he had been a patient for a week. He had been
hospitalized several times during the summer at Ellis Fischel Hospital
in Columbia, Missouri. He was the son of Mrs. Orville Biser and the
late Clarence Hess, born in Holliday in 1910. He received his high
school education in Holliday and attended a school for jewelers and
watchmakers in Albany. At the age of 16, Hess was stricken with an
illness which confined him to a wheelchair for the remainder of his
life. He operated a jewelry store in Madison for several years before
opening his shop at Grandview, Missouri two years ago. He was a member
of the Christian church. He enjoyed life and was always cheerful
although he was an invalid and was handicapped. Mr. Hess is survived by
his mother, Mrs. Orville Biser, his step-father, Mr. Biser, and his
maternal grandmother, Mrs. Cora Moore, all of Kansas City. He was
reared in the home of his grandparents, Mrs. Moore and the late J.T.
Moore. The body lay in state at the Thompson Funeral Chapel until the
hour of the services which were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at
the Madison Christian Church, Rev C.W. Cornn officiating. Burial was
in Bethel Cemetery at Holliday."
