Rev. Stephen Owings



"Rev. Stephen Owings, 73, retired Christian minister, died Sunday
afternoon at 1:00 at Woodland Hospital after entering (as) a patient on
Wednesday. He suffered a stroke at his home southwest of Paris Tuesday
night. Survivors include his wife, the former Ester Gray Owings; one
son, Blenn, of Appleton Wis.; two brothers, Ray of Clark and Orville of
Moberly, nieces and nephews. Rev. Owings was born in Audrain County,
the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel Owings. He preached at the
Christian Churches of Monroe County and was the minister at Paris for
many years. The Owings Pastoral Unity including Tulip, Santa Fe,
Pleasant Grove and Oak Ridge Churches was named in his honor. The
family had lived in the Paris area over 20 years. The body was taken to
the family home southwest of Paris Monday afternoon at 2:00, where it
remained until time for services. Funeral services were held Tuesday
afternoon at 2:30 at the Paris Christian Church with Rev. Charles Barr
officiating, assisted by Rev. John Foster of Moberly. Burial was in
Walnut Grove cemetery."
