Dr. E.B. Riley
"Funeral services were held for Dr. E.B. Riley Sunday afternoon at 2:00
p.m. by the Rev. C.W. Cornn of Moberly, former pastor of the Madison
Church, and burial was in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Dr. E. Bayles Riley,
prominent Moberly dentist and nationally known field trial judge, died
at 5:15 o'clock Friday afternoon at his home in Madison. Dr. Riley had
been in ill health two years and was hospitalized a number of times. He
had, however, maintained his office in Moberly and saw patients there
Thursday. He took ill Friday and appointments for the day were
canceled. Dr. Riley, born July 26, 1898, in Madison, was the son of
Bayles and Sarah Dixon Riley. The father was a native of the Madison
community and his mother came from Pennsylvania. Dr. Riley was
graduated from the Madison high school and the University of Kansas City
Dental College. He practiced in Mexico City and Albuquerque, N.M.,
before returning in 1936 to his boyhood home to live. He had practiced
in Moberly since that time.
He was a past president of the Missouri State Dental Society; past
president of the Missouri State Field Trials Association; long a judge
of national meets, national free-for-alls and futurities, and also for
open stakes in many states and in Canada. Dr. Riley had just received
notice telling him he had been named chairman of a national committee to
select famous dogs and trainers for the Hall of Fame. Dr. Riley also
was a 32nd degree mason, a Knight Templar, member of the Scottish Rite
and a Shriner. Besides his wife, he is survived by cousins, Caskie
Hayden, Curtis Dixon and Mrs. Elizabeth Richmond, all of Madison, and
several other cousins."
