Subject: [MOMONTGO] FLORENCE family around High Hill

Greetings to the list. I am descended from Josephine FLORENCE who (I have just learned) lived in High Hill with her cousin, Nancy FLORENCE before marrying William E. CONSTANCE. Nancy was married to Martin D. PUCKETT. These people came to High Hill from Highland County, OH.

According to their obits, Josephine and William CONSTANCE are buried in the New Florence cemetery in Montgomery County.

I've looked around the Internet a bit and have pieced together the following as yet undocumented facts. Nancy's parents were Thomas FLORENCE and Mary SPRINGER. Both are buried in Highland County, OH. Thomas' parents were John Thomas FLORENCE and Elizabeth WILLIAMS. Elizabeth was buried in OH -- but John Thomas is said to be buried in Missouri! He was born 9 Oct 1772 in VA and died 30 Aug 1844.

If Nancy and Josephine were cousins, then John Thomas FLORENCE must have been grandfather to both. I would like to know who Josephine's parents were. Family lore has it that she was an orphan. There are also postings on the Internet that suggest she was the daughter of Paulina FLORENCE and J. CUMBERLAND, possibly out of wedlock. If so, was Paulina John Thomas' daughter?

Does anyone have inscriptions for New Florence Cemetery? Is John Thomas FLORENCE there? Or Nancy and Martin PUCKETT? I would like to know if there are some wills I should be looking for.

I am grateful for any help.

Sara Reed
