//I am related to a Henry Mentz. On his marriage record for St.Louis in 1860 his name is Heinrich Menz. I do not know why his name changed to Mentz. Also on the marriage record it states that he is from Bielefeld. /He married Katharine Winkelmann from Siselen, Canton Bern, Swizerland. They were evangelical protestants.///{snip} s/Daniel//
The Conrad Menz posting on Rootsweb was mine -- I am a
great-granddaughter. In reading Daniel's posting, I do not believe we
are at all related. Conrad Menz (who anglicized his given name from
Konrad, of course) was born in Mauchenheim, Pfalz, Kingdom of Bavaria,
and emigrated to the United States in the 1850's. He was from a Roman
Catholic family, a baker by trade, and married Gertrude Kaufer in the
early 1870's. To the best of my knowledge, he was fourth of a family of
five children, and did not have a brother named Heinrich (Henry). This
is based on civil and church records from Germany, archived in the
Family History Center of the LDS Church in Salt Lake City. Sorry we
couldn't connect these two, but I don't see any possibility.
(I am posting this reply here because I was unable to 'get through' the
Rootsweb interface to reply there. Perhaps someone will pass it on to
"Daniel" who posted there.)

Donna Proffitt Edgar
