Hi Joy, My Maness family was Lazerous Maness (said to have been the "oldest"
son of Steven Manus/Manis/Maness of Newton County. Lazerous (spelled four
ways so far) died in Douglas county in 1888. He had married Nancy?? and had
12 children. I have not found any of the names of these 12. When Nancy died
he married Sarah Ann Martin, Humphreys who had 7 children. Two of which were
Nathan and George. Possibly two of the girls were Sophie and Fida. Lazerous
and Sarah had three more girls and one boy. Lissie (Martha Ulyliss), Minnie
Sylvania, Carrie (Caroline ?) and Lazerous Newton Maness. Two of the three
girls married the same year that Lazerous died and they were both under age.
They married at their mother's house in Douglas County. I lost my computer
early May (hard drive) and with it lost much of my last year's research. Is
it possible that you would have anything that would help me with rebuilding
this info base?? I should have backed up again but have my mother and got
custody of my two grandchildren in Jan and just did no back up from Feb, 99
on. Silly and I know better butttttt...
Thank you for anything you could send..
Take Care
Jo

Janet - - - - - Might have been Pierce, cause it was an
interesting stone.
There are Maness names at Oakwood Cem. Also Pierce. There was
one Lucinda something but I didn't write it down because it
wasn't Elliott that you were looking for. I know it was in the
old part of the cemetery so could be some of your elusive
ancestors.
Have either of you ever tried writing GFL for where these folks
might be buried? Virtually all of the old cemeteries have been
canvassed and are in Larry James series of books - Pioneers of
the Six Bulls. Films of these books are available thru your
local FHC, as well.
The Maness name also shows up in McDonald County.
Anderson/Goodman area, I believe.
