Hi Hugh
Thanks for responding and for sending information on the workhouses – I hadn’t thought of that as an abbreviation.
I have looked through the records
<< which records where ??
of the most likely ones – Bedwellty, Newport and Abergavenny but only one (Bedwellty) seemed to have a list of the ‘inmates’. It was worth a try – thanks
<<< they all do in the censuses
The person I am looking for is Elizabeth WITHERALL – who would have been about 25 in1871 and her son Edgar.I guess will need to search the 1871 census. Do you have access to this?
<<<<<<<<< no witherall in Mon 1881 CD
George WITHENALL M 35 M Appleby, Warwick, England
Rel: Lodger
Occ: Coal Miner
>>>
I’m relatively new to this game but I am learning all the time. The rootsweb site is great especially for us who once lived in Monmouthshire, but are now far far away!!
<< no Edgar Witherall in national index 1881
(he could be dead or in USA or Ireland for example)
where did you get the data?
have you checked the original source or film ?
