I am making an exception with this message and allowing it to come to
the list. As Peggy is not yet subscribed to the list could all replies
be sent to her and not to the list. The more help she gets the more
likely she is to subscribe <grin>

I am not a subscriber (yet), but hope that some older Newport listers
might be able to help me please by remembering back to WW2.
My husband Phil was adopted in 1942 & until the fairly recent death of
his adoptive mother had no idea about his birth parents. Through a
letter left for him by his adoptive mother and considerable help from
the Salvation Army archives he has learned that his birth mother was a
Newport girl. She was born Doreen BENNETT between 1916-1918 probably in
Newport (the Salvos didn't have her precise d.o.b. but the Newport
Register Office has a record for March quarter of 1916). She lived with
her parents & 2 brothers at 6 Cromwell Road, Newport before & during
WW2. The Salvos believe she married a man with the surname THORNTON
about 1945, but the Register Office can't trace this marriage. With the
help of some Glam listers we have traced Phil's birth father (now
deceased) & Phil is happily corresponding with his "new" brothers and
sister in Swansea. He would love to find out about his birth mother & if
possible make contact with any half siblings on that side of his
family. If any of you can recall this lady (who is almost certainly also
deceased), or can suggest any ways we may be able to trace her, we
would really appreciate your help.
